A wonderful old wooden ice axe in excellent condition.  This ice axe is stout and still could be used today!  It features a leather head cover, negative tip clearance pick, solid wooden shaft, curved adze and traditional shaped spike.  A wonderful old wooden ice axe.

The Andermatten brothers out of Saas Almagel in Central Switzerland are attributed with the creation of the Mischabel ice axes.  Mischabel was named for the local mountain range above Saas Almagel.  This old Swiss family was one of the first and finest to offer guided treks in the alpine regions.  They had a large blacksmith business long supplying the Swiss military with their exacting equipment.  The other side is stamped with ROBERT LAWRIE LTD,LONDON W1 - which is attributed to a London based alpine specialist who imported mountain gear for resell and rental.
