Very unique vintage Nordic ski photo.

A great photo showing the end of the 42 mile round trip Nordic ski race held at Crater Lake in Oregon c. 1929. The winning skier shown is Emil Nordeen a Swedish outdoorsman from Bend Oregon. The race started in the South Central Cascade mountains as the Crater Lake Wilderness Race in 1927. In 1929 it was called the Klamath Cup Race, which Emil Nordeen won in 5 hours and 57 minutes. He was 43 years old and was the oldest participant a the time. Next time you're up doing a 10 mile cross country or skate ski trek imagine you have 32 more miles to go, breaking trail the entire way with skis 9 feet long weighing 15 pounds each!
