Classic Canadian Wooden Snowshoes
Wood, Rawhide, Leather, Metal
40 1/2"l x13"w
This pair of vintage wooden snowshoes are ready for the Alpine Chalet and are in great condition. Handmade in Canada for many, many years (these were likely made (1940s-1950s). White Ash is harvested, then steam bent into this traditional snowshoe shape. Rawhide is then woven or laced (while wet) to create the distinctive snowshoe footprint. As the rawhide dries, it becomes taught and can support the weight of a grown adult on the snow. Leather bindings add to the look and also make these usable for the 100 year - snowstorm.... which we hope is right around the corner!
